Weekly Market Edge • May 27, 2026
Hey traders,
We have seen so many big moves in the market recently, and I’ve been reducing my trade sizes in the semiconductor space as setups approach targets. However, I’m always on the lookout for the next space that is ready to make a move. I noticed that there are similar patterns across these tickers: MP Materials (MP), OKLO, and now Solaris Energy Infrastructure (SEI). These names are all squeezing tightly after strong prior runs. Low-volume bases, narrowing ranges, and constructive relative strength versus the broader market — textbook consolidation ahead of potential explosive breakouts.
This isn’t random rotation. It’s the market digesting the massive macro setup in the U.S. critical minerals / rare-earths + advanced nuclear / SMR + immediate AI bridge-power space while waiting for the next spark.
What Is This Space and Why Does It Matter?
At its core, this is the intersection of three unstoppable 2026 megatrends all tied to the AI infrastructure boom:
- Critical Minerals & Rare Earths (the “mine-to-magnet” supply chain)
These stocks supply the neodymium-praseodymium (NdPr), dysprosium, terbium, and other elements that go into high-performance permanent magnets. Those magnets power EVs, robotics, wind turbines, drones, F-35 fighters, and basically every high-tech application that needs compact, powerful motors.
Key names: MP Materials (Mountain Pass + new magnet plants), USA Rare Earth (USAR), Critical Metals (CRML). - Advanced Nuclear / SMRs / Micro-Reactors (the long-term clean power solution)
Data centers and AI training are creating an insatiable demand for always-on, carbon-free baseload power that the grid simply can’t deliver fast enough. Big Tech is going straight to nuclear — signing direct PPAs and funding SMR deployments.
Key names: OKLO (small modular & advanced reactors), NuScale Power (SMR), Nano Nuclear Energy (NNE). - AI Bridge Power Generation (the “right-now” modular solution)
While nuclear plants take years to build, hyperscalers need reliable MW-scale power today. This sub-sector delivers modular, mobile, gas-fired turbine packages and behind-the-meter “Power-as-a-Service” that can be deployed in months — the perfect interim bridge.
Key name: SEI (Solaris Energy Infrastructure) — recently expanded with 900+ MW of turbine capacity and long-term data-center contracts.
Crossover play: Energy Fuels (UUUU) does both uranium and rare-earth processing — the perfect bridge stock that traders rotate into when either theme heats up.
Together, these names represent U.S. energy independence + national-security supply-chain security + immediate AI power delivery in one high-conviction basket. China still dominates rare-earth processing; AI power hunger is exploding; and Washington is throwing policy, funding, and defense dollars behind domestic solutions.
The Technical Setup I’m Seeing
- MP and OKLO have both formed multi-week tight consolidations with declining volume — exactly the kind of “coiled spring” I love.
- SEI has run hard YTD but is now in a symmetrical triangle coil in the low-to-mid $70s after hitting 52-week highs — same low-volume basing behavior with improving relative strength.
- Peers (USAR, CRML, UUUU, SMR, NNE) are showing similar basing behavior and are holding key moving averages.
- Group relative strength is quietly improving versus the Nasdaq and small-cap indices.
When one name gets a headline or sector catalyst, the whole basket tends to move in sympathy — classic momentum rotation setup. Let’s Look at the charts.

What Could Light the Fuse? (Catalysts Already on the Calendar)
We don’t have to wait months. The next three weeks are loaded with targeted events that have historically moved these names:
- Fresh DOE selection for OKLO in the plutonium utilization program (already hitting wires).
- NEI Government Affairs Conference (May 28–30).
- DOE Critical Minerals funding deadline (May 29).
- World Nuclear Fuel Market Annual Meeting (May 31–June 2).
- SMR & Advanced Reactor 2026 conference (June 8–9, Midland).
- MP Materials AGM + Giga US 26 rare-earth/magnet conference (June 9–10).
- U.S. Chamber Critical Minerals Summit (June 11).
Any one of these can deliver partnership news, new funding awards, policy updates, or Big Tech power announcements — exactly what ignites the kind of volume breakout you’re positioned for. SEI’s recent contract momentum and financing also keep it primed for fresh PPA headlines.
Bottom line: The macro tailwinds (AI power demand + China decoupling + bipartisan policy support) are already in place. The charts are showing the classic consolidation-to-breakout formation across the entire group. And the calendar is handing us multiple high-probability news windows in the next 21 days.
Watchlist (the core group I’m tracking):
MP • OKLO • SEI • UUUU • SMR • NNE • USAR • CRML • BWXT
The best part about recognizing consolidation breakout patterns is that you know there is energy there waiting, even if you don’t know when it’s coming. I don’t need to follow all these potential catalysts to guess when the breakout is coming. It’s enough to know that there are potential catalysts on the radar. Ultimately, it’s the price action I follow. I generally get in before the news-related events, and end up riding the move when the event triggers the breakout.
I’m looking forward to seeing how these play out!
